Accent With Silk Throw Pillows
We have a pretty nice formal living room and we recently finished painting the walls with a new color scheme and putting in new carpeting and a couch. So to finish off our new room decor, we added new curtains and it made sense to go and get some new pillows to match the curtains and tie in the overall room decor. Also, they were looking to continue an upscale perhaps Asian influence that seem that it would be a good idea to look into some silk pillows. A quick trip to the store after looking at some options over the Internet showed us that there are quite a few options for us to consider. First, there are many different sizes of silk pillows, the most common size being 16 inches X 16 inches or 18 inches X 18 inches. Of course there are some larger sizes, but Silk is an expensive fabric and larger pillows are probably not very economical. These two basic sizes of pillows can be had for under $50, but larger sizes can easily range from $75-$100.
The next important characteristic for selecting a silk pillow is probably color along with a texture or woven pattern. There are many different colors available today from shiny metallic silvers and golds to any number of color palettes. It's a good idea to see what's available in different colors, before you make a final selection on draperies and upholstery fabrics. Choose a vibrant color if you are trying to add a certain sophistication to the room. Along with many options in solid colors, don't forget to look at stripes or other patterns. There's no rules it in interior design that say you can't mix and match colors and textures, so have fun with your design. For best results, choose pillows made of 100% Silk, with good filler, the same fabric front and back, knife-edged seams, and concealed zippers. Look for specials on the Internet. Just taking a short Google search, I was able to find pillow combos with two matching 16" x 16" Pillows in a set for only $24.99. So it pays to shop around and take the time to plan out what your new room decor will look like before you spend the bulk of your decorating dollars. |
