Fun Extra Large Floor Pillows

We went to the mall the other day to try to find some extra large floor pillows for the kids play area as we need something that can be just thrown down on the floor for play time and for makeshift seating. I was not really sure what to get at first because there are so many options to choose from. I found some square edged floor pillows that looked fine for sitting on, but I also saw some larger one that were round and filled with foam. These seemed pretty comfortable, and kind of reminded me of the old bean bag pillows that I had while growing up, but my concern was they are pretty large and difficult to put away when cleaning the space.

I also saw several other types. Some were more like full body pillows, rectangular and body sized, as well as the old bean bag pillows, which still come in squares, rectangles, and "blob-like" form. Today you can even find hockey puck shaped pillows and those that are made specifically for dogs.

I decided to get 3 of the basic square floor pillows as a start. These come in 3 sizes - 24", 30" and 36" and have the option of a inner liner. The inner liner seems like a really good idea because it it holds the polyester filling which allows you to remove and longer the outer covering of fabric of the pillow. The pillows that I looked at had squared edging which given a finished look like a couch cushion. There were a multitude of fabrics that I saw, and it appears that the fabrics come in several choices of grade. The first grade was several different colors in a twill type grade. For $15 more, you could go with a suede type fabric cover, which are really nice. There was also a corduroy fabric choice that looked nice. For $20 more, you could get an even higher grade of suede, and I can tell you this is an awesome fabric. In general, the prices seem pretty reasonable, but I would imagine you could find similar pillows online for $50, $60, or $80, maybe less, and save money on sales tax. I chose the 24 inch floor pillows and I think these fiber-filled pillows will be great for the kids, especially for "movie night" or just sitting around a coffee table playing board games. I also took a look at foam chairs. We also considered the various beanbags. We had a lot of these when I was growing up, but they didn't seem to wear real well as the quality of the fabric was sort of a poor vinyl covering and they didn't come with liners, so inevitably, the zipper opened up and you get tons of these little beanbag foam BBs everywhere. It looks like today's final beanbag pillows are of much better construction. You can still find the standard kids beanbags and they seem to be available in many many different colors, to coordinate with your room decor. you can also find adult sized beanbag for pillows that are a bit larger. There are also a couple of other types of rectangular beanbag pillows that look like they would be great thrown on the floor, or brought out to the pool area. These would give you extra seating outdoors for the kids, and it looks like they could take the moisture from the pool. One last beanbag pillow I saw that was really cool are actual ottomans with the foot rests made out of beanbags. These seem like the ultimate child's chair.
